I’ve found my newest obsession – diamond painting. I think I’ve mentioned it before, but I wasn’t sure if it was something I would like enough to stick with.
After completing a number of them, now I’m sure. 😛
After the mandalas I made, I made a small 30cm x 30cm diamond painting for my nephew, to see if I liked the full canvas painting, rather than the partials I had done with the mandalas.
I think it turned out pretty well, and my nephew loved it. So I bought a couple more paintings, this time with square drills, to see if I liked the square drills better. I found a gorgeous owl that was a fairly small canvas and decided to try it first.
The square drills are better for my inner control-freak, because it fills up the whole canvas, instead of leaving spaces like the round drills do. However, it is also frustrating, because it’s impossible to get all the square drills perfectly straight.
Also, the full canvas drills take a lot longer (obviously), but I’m enjoying the process. I turn on some background music or videos and paint away. It’s relaxing, even though it probably seems tedious to some people. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with this one once it’s finished. Is this something people would buy? I’ve considered putting finished ones up on Etsy or something, but I would want to send them unsealed so I could roll them up and not spend a fortune on shipping a framed painting. I guess I should do some research and see what’s out there already and how other people are doing it, if so.
Regardless of the eventual destination of the painting, I am having a blast doing it, so I definitely see more of these in my crafting future. After the owl, I have a larger square drill full canvas of a wolf/dreamcatcher painting I’m going to make for my oldest.
After that, who knows? Now that I’ve mastered the art of the multiplacer tool, I’m hoping it all goes a bit more quickly. And now that I know I like diamond painting, I won’t feel bad investing in some better tools – like a better drill tool and some higher quality wax.
What about you? Have you found any new crafts/hobbies that you’ve fallen in love with?
